This wine, born from the slopes of Serra da Estrela, clearly had a spirited youth. Its relatively short maturation, combined with extended aging in French oak, has resulted in a remarkably bold and almost rebellious character. Red fruit and wild herb notes – a scent that truly evokes the mountain itself – are underpinned by a refreshing acidity, a result not of age, but of the naturally vibrant Cova da Beira grapes. A perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, I’d suggest.
