This Douro white from Quinta Maria Izabel isn’t messing around – it’s a bold statement. Crafted from meticulously chosen grapes, both old and new vines, it undergoes whole-cluster pressing, yielding a remarkably complex “tears” wine. The aging – 80% in French oak and 20% in stainless steel – adds a deliciously velvety texture, while indigenous yeasts ensure a controlled fermentation at a cool 14°C. Dirk Niepoort and Rosário Monteiro have created a mineral-driven Umbria wine with notes of white plum and citrus, perfect for immediate enjoyment or, considering the challenging 2020 vintage, a patient ageing.
