The origins of Quinta de S. João Batista are lost among tales of noble successions, donations to religious orders, and other events. The estate was acquired in 1987 by Caves Dom Teodósio, now a member of the Enoport Wines Group, and since then the quinta has undergone a major restructuring of its vineyards and the construction of a modern winemaking centre. Located within the Paul do Boquilobo Natural Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve since 1981, Quinta de S. João Batista is steeped in centuries of history, represented by its colonial-style manor house and an architectural ensemble of excellent cellars for wine ageing. The estate covers a total area of about 145 hectares, of which 130 are planted with vines.
