Description

Tawny wines are red wines made from the same grapes as Ruby wines, but they age only two to three years in barrel casks before moving to the large wooden barrels. These allow more contact between the wine, wood, and air. Thus, Tawny wines breathe more, oxidising and maturing quickly. Due to the high oxidation, Tawny wines lose the initial red colour, taking on lighter amber tones and flavours of dried fruits such as walnuts or almonds. With age, Tawny wines gain even more aromatic complexity, enriching their scents. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (Illustrative image only)
