This hefty magnum from Quinta Vale Meão isn’t messing around – it’s a serious contender for ‘great wine’. Driven by Touriga Nacional and Aragonez, it delivers a full-bodied red, very much in the style of the Douro. Supposedly, the ageing in oak has imparted a lovely toasty note, much to the delight of the critics, and the deep colour hints at a wine with plenty of longevity. Absolutely ideal with a slow-roasted beef or, frankly, for a good old barbecue with mates – a wine that demands respect and a good celebration.
