Rivers-Marie is a passion project owned and managed by the husband‑and‑wife team of Thomas Rivers Brown and Genevieve Marie Welsh, both raised in Sonoma. The venture was founded in 2002, producing an absolutely tiny quantity of wine from the Summa vineyard. Brown was already one of Napa’s most sought‑after consulting oenologists, crafting extraordinary Cabernets, but he wanted to make wines inspired by Burgundy and Barolo. Today, Rivers‑Marie produces Pinot and Chardonnay (and a few Cabernets) from coastal sites across the Western region, as well as Summa. The wines have a Burgundian stylistic tilt – but they are very representative of the Sonoma Coast – and are among the best examples of Sonoma Pinot you’ll find.
