This Tokaji Blue Label 5 Puttonyos is clearly having a bit of fun with the idea of “balance.” Honey, apricots and figs dance across the palate, but with the resolute drive of a 9.9g/l Furmint keeping things firmly in check. Clocking in at a hefty 158g/l of residual sugar, we suspect the extended aging in Hungarian oak casks – undoubtedly lending a spicy note – wasn’t holding back. Seriously decadent, and best paired with an intensely rich chocolate cake with a stubborn refusal to be tamed.
