This Omaka Reserva Chardonnay clearly enjoyed a chat with some new American oak – a full 43% to be precise! The fruit, initially a touch delicate, was handled with care, and the fermentation with selected yeasts hinted at a wine with real potential. A solid twelve months ageing sur lie (with the lees stirring) resulted in a remarkably complex texture and aroma. Seriously, it’s a wine that would pair beautifully with a hearty grilled beef bone, or perhaps some sautéed prawns – a lovely contrast with the richness of the Chardonnay.
