Lopo de Freitas white is produced exclusively from Viognier grapes sourced from vineyards planted in sandy-clay soils with excellent sun exposure and located near the Atlantic. It is a wine of unique aromatic exuberance, revealing plenty of citrus fruit framed by delicate floral notes and a light toasted character. On the palate it is full-bodied and smooth, with an intense flavour and a surprising minerality and balance. Since 1937, the company Caves do Solar de São Domingos has been producing sparkling wines, aged brandies, grape marc brandy (aguardente bagaceira), and Bairrada and Dão wines. Its cellars house more than two million bottles of sparkling wine, many thousands of bottled wines, and hundreds of French oak barrels for its renowned wine brandies. The "São Domingos" grape marc brandy, produced in the company's own stills, continues to lead the market with its consistently high quality. In 2006, a modern winemaking centre was inaugurated, capable of receiving one thousand tonnes of grapes from the company's own estates and from winegrowers working in partnership with the company. Constant innovation in production and winemaking methods has enabled the company to raise the quality and prestige of its house wines, strengthening the competitiveness of the São Domingos brand. Wine tourism is also a resounding success, attracting thousands of visitors every year with the beauty of the cellars carved into the rock, the millions of bottles, as well as the showroom, hall and museum with a tasting room, which form an integral part of the Bairrada Route.
