This São Lourenço from the Bairrada – a terroir that’s frankly quite dramatic, with those rolled-stone slopes and a touch of Buçaco influence – is a delightful surprise. The wine press, awarding a respectable 86 points, wasn’t wrong: it’s a full-bodied wine brimming with ripe fruit, delivering the smooth promise of Touriga Nacional and Merlot. There’s a noticeable intensity from the Syrah, balanced by the refreshing notes of Arinto, all working together in a remarkably harmonious way. I’d recommend pairing it with a hearty beef roast, perhaps with a little garlic, to really coax out the subtleties of this Bairrada gem.
