Spoke Region: Ilha Sul, Marlborough, New Zealand When we learned that Marlborough’s oldest organic vineyard was about to be uprooted, we intervened to save it. The grapes, harvested manually, proved to be extraordinary to work with. A total of two tonnes of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon were hand‑picked, pressed whole bunches and co‑fermented. These two hectares of historic Marlborough vines were rescued from a critical point of abandonment. The must underwent a brief skin maceration before being transferred to used French oak barrels and a new large‑capacity French oak puncheon for the final maturation.
