Description

The Vinícola de Nelas S.A. was founded in 1939 and has been devoted from the outset to the trade of wines and their derivatives. Its facilities are in Nelas, the heart of the Dão wine region. In 1990 a new vinification centre was built, capable of processing 3,500 tonnes of grapes at harvest and equipped with the latest technology to fully exploit the potential of the local fruit. Using grapes from the Dão, Vinícola de Nelas boasts a storage capacity of 4 million litres, making it one of the largest private cellars in the area. The wines are made from the classic Dão varieties – Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro Preto, Jaen and Tinta Roriz for reds, and Encruzado, Arinto do Dão, Borrado das Moscas and Cercial for whites. Our wines regularly win national and international awards: the 1992 “ESCANÇÃO” white earned a Gold Medal at the 1995 Challenge International du Vin; the 1995 white and the 1997, 1998 and 2001 reds received an Honorable Mention, while the 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003 vintages secured silver medals at the C.V.R. Dão “Best Wine of the Dão in Production” competition. (Illustrative image only)
