The wine from the vat, now called Talha Pezgada, has existed for more than 30 years and has always been part of our family life. Our father, Marcelino Pereira, has always been a vat wine producer, and we have watched the harvest and every step of wine production from a young age. Father Marcelino has been making this nectar with the same dedication and affection with which he began planting his vines at 12, together with our grandfather. We vividly remember the image of our father and Uncle Ferro in the rack, crushing grapes with the strength of their arms. After the grapes were crushed, it was necessary to pull the mash with a rafter and climb the vats twice a day to stir the wine—Pereira would climb the vats, a practice that continues to this day. In the family, we created Talha Pezgada, inspired by the lining of the vats we use, which is a mixture of pez louro (resin) and beeswax. (Illustrative image only)
