98 pts Wine Enthusiast – An impressive black‑purple core with a narrow violet rim. A powerful explosion of wild fruit, a dense blackberry and currant coulis almost dominates the nose. Black fruit aromas are infused with subtle notes of cherry and mocha. As expected from Taylor’s, the fruit is very fine and concentrated, but the vintage seems to have given it an extra layer of density and weight. A familiar veil of violet perfume hangs over the wine, along with a scent of rose petals and herbs and mint. On the palate, the wine has beautifully mature tannins that settle perfectly in the middle of the tongue, providing structure and volume, then break at the finish with a firm, ropey bite. The finish ends with a powerful wave of fresh, complex fruit that flows continuously to the end. In 2018, Taylor’s fine fruit traits and inner power blend perfectly with the maturation and typical depth of the vintage.
