This wine, from the Cooperativa Vitivinícola da Ilha do Pico, clearly benefited from a rather meticulous upbringing – a cool 15°C stainless steel fermentation followed by a lees aging that’s given it a wonderfully fresh character. The blend of native Azorean grapes with a European influence presents a vibrant expression of tropical fruits, alongside a distinct volcanic aroma that’s instantly evocative of the volcanic ‘Terras de Lava’. It’s a wine with a good body, notable minerality and a lingering, salty finish – a perfect partner for some grilled fish with a squeeze of lemon, wouldn’t you agree?
