Torre do Frade is a family-owned agricultural estate located in the municipality of Monforte in the heart of Alto Alentejo, southeastern Portugal, very close to the Spanish Estremadura border. The estate’s history dates back to the distant year of 1384 when the original owner donated the land to the Hermits of the Order of St. Augustine, where the friars founded a convent that flourished until 1834, when religious orders were expelled from Portugal by Joaquim António de Aguiar, then Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Justice. After the friars were expelled, the land was sold at public auction and purchased by the family in 1839. Since that day, its mission has been focused on producing food products of excellence with a quality index above the ordinary.
