Description

Quinta de Tourais, located in the Douro, has been in the Coelho family for three generations. Until 1999, all of the grapes grown on the estate were sold in full to an exporting company for the production of Port wine. In 1999, under the enological guidance of Fernando Coelho, the estate began producing its own wines. At that time, the property where these wines are born covers 8 hectares, planted with roughly 37,000 vine plants. The estate is 100 % committed to the traditional Douro varieties, whose richness and diversity give rise to unique wines that reflect the character of their native terroir. Across both white and red categories, the estate cultivates about 30 different grape varieties, most of which are grown on a vineyard plot that is over 60 years old. The passion poured into every step of the process—from tending the soil and vines to the final product—is evident in the wines’ distinctive character and is reflected in the importance placed on their image. They always strive to combine the invaluable lessons of traditional production with the innovative techniques and technologies of the moment. (Illustrative image only)
