The Quinta de Tourais, situated in the Douro, has belonged to the Coelho family for three generations. Until 1999 the grapes grown on the estate were sold in full to an exporting company for Port wine production. In 1999, under the enological direction of Fernando Coelho, the first wines began to be produced. At that time the property where these wines are born covers 8 hectares, with about 37,000 vine plants. The estate is 100 % committed to the traditional Douro varieties, whose richness and diversity create unique wines that reflect the personality of their terroir. Between whites and reds the Quinta cultivates around 30 different varieties, most of which are planted on plots of vines over 60 years old. The passion poured into every step—from soil and vine care to the final product—shines through in the wines’ distinctive character and is evident in the care given to their image. They constantly seek to blend the invaluable lessons of traditional production with the latest innovative techniques and technologies.
