The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who managed it until 1973. Today, the management of Caves Messias remains in the hands of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the principal designated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port wine.
