This “Truffa Negra” from the Douro certainly aims for impact – you get a hefty dose of that classic Douro robustness, coupled with the layered complexity only truly local red grapes can provide. It’s a wine with serious presence, clearly shaped by the region’s demanding terroir, hinting at earthy, almost mushroomy notes. The grape variety remains somewhat discreet, but it’s a clever move, isn’t it? – and it’s fantastic with a perfectly cooked duck breast and some nicely sautéed mushrooms; a pairing that really lets the wine’s character shine.
