This Tyto Alba Merlot, born on the banks of the Tejo, quietly demonstrates that this well-known grape variety still has a few delightful surprises in store. The ripe red fruit – think plump cherries mingled with a hint of spice – hints at a particularly sun-drenched vintage. Perhaps the limestone soils of the region played a part in its elegant character, a quality that earned it recognition at the Vila Nova de Gaia International Competition. Seriously, it’s fantastic with a hearty roast or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a classic Bacalhau à Brás.
