Vale da Raposa 2019 vintage In an overall dry year (though not as extreme as 2017 or 2015), pronounced temperature swings shaped it most – from the start, temperatures alternated between above and below average, naturally affecting the vine cycle, which after an early acceleration subsequently slowed. The different grape varieties responded in distinct ways to these fluctuations, with some initial heterogeneity in ripening that demanded rigorous monitoring and a re‑definition of the harvest calendar. The effort paid off – alongside excellent overall plant health, knowing how to wait and respect the timing of each variety and vineyard under that year’s conditions allowed a gradual refinement of the wine’s character and final quality. Wines of depth, solid structure, initially a bit closed and austere but with great character, complexity, and fantastic balance. Cellaring wines for which, as happened in the vineyard, patience will also be essential… all set for significant bottle evolution. Stage: 12 months in French oak barrels, 35 % new and 65 % second‑hand.
