This Vallado Tawny Reserva is a veritable whirlwind of brick-red colour, certainly delivering on its promise. Rich aromas of ripe wild berries intertwine with notes of hazelnuts and spices, hinting at the wisdom of these old vines. The palate is surprisingly fresh and intense, culminating in an explosive finish – perfect alongside a grilled fish, perhaps sea bass with lemon. That Grand Choice award is, at the very least, a reassuring sign of quality.
