This Van Zellers & Co. LBV is crafted from indigenous grape varieties, hand-picked across various sub-regions of the Douro. The grapes are gently crushed by foot in traditional granite lagares, undergoing fermentation within these same lagares for 2-5 days. Once the desired sugar level is reached, a touch of grape spirit halts the process. Following racking and pressing, the newly produced LBV is aged for 36-48 months in old, generously sized oak barrels (600-10,000 litres), resulting in a deeply ruby-colored wine with aromas of dark cherries, cassis, juniper and velvety tannins. It’s a remarkably elegant and refined wine with a long, fruity finish – perfect alongside a rich chocolate dessert, perhaps?
