This 30‑year‑old Port is made from a blend of various lots of aged Port wines stored in very old wooden barrels, featuring more than 30 traditional red grape varieties from the Douro. The grapes come from ancient vines in Cima Corgo, mainly in the valleys of the Torto and Pinhão rivers. Exuberant and seductive, it reveals distinct layers throughout the tasting, with notes of exotic fruit, honey, spices, apricots, and walnuts. Until around 1756, the production of “embarkation wines,” as Port wines were then called, followed the so‑called “old process” of vinification. Fortification, always in small quantity, only took place after fermentation was complete, producing dry wines. In 1820, the modern fortification process emerged, wherein the cessation of alcoholic fermentation was induced, resulting in sweet wines. This method only became widespread in 1852, when Port wines began to resemble their modern counterparts. Thus, Port wine is a fortified wine produced in the Demarcated Region of the Douro, under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors. The production process, rooted in tradition, includes stopping the fermentation of the must by adding grape brandy, blending wines, and then aging. Port wines are divided into different categories depending on the type of ageing, ranging between Ruby, Tawny, White and Rosé styles. The year of bottling may not correspond to the image shown.
