Van Zellers & Co The man plays an essential role in wine making. It all starts with the man’s hand, planting the vine, tending it, and harvesting the juicy grapes it produces. Handcrafted wines are skillfully blended, mixing the different bunches to create the final lot. The careful combination of various flavors and selected notes results in the finished wine. Crafted by Hand, the VZ Douro Tinto is made from grapes sourced from different vineyards. The main vineyard is located in Valença do Douro, at 450 m above sea level, planted with more than 20 varieties. The other vineyards are situated in the Rio Torto valley and above Pinhão, in Casal de Loivos, also with mixed varieties. We estimate that there are about 30 different grape varieties in this wine. Vinification: All grapes are stomped by foot in vats for 1 to 3 days before fermentation. They then ferment in stainless‑steel tanks for 7 to 10 days at temperatures between 22 °C and 27 °C, with manual rimages. The resulting wine is then transferred to French oak barrels of 225 L, ranging from one to two years old, from different cooperages, where malolactic fermentation occurs. The wine aged for 26 months in barrels, keeping the fermentations separate until the final blend. It was then stabilised for two months in stainless‑steel tanks before bottling. Allergen information: Contains sulphites. SKU: 106745
