Van Zellers & Co A lot of more than 30 traditional Douro grape varieties, sourced from old vines and more recent single‑varietal vines located in Cima Corgo, mainly in the valleys of Rio Torto and Pinhão. The grapes are crushed by foot before and throughout fermentation. When the must is ready for the addition of grape brandy, fortification is carried out in one go, blending all the brandy with the must and skins in the crusher. A second foot‑press follows to ensure thorough homogenisation and to halt fermentation. The mixture of must and brandy remains in the crusher for another day or two, with a light press twice a day (10 minutes each time). It is then transferred to the storage tank together with all the pressed wine (we use traditional basket presses). The wines mature in very old Port casks, over 100 years old, for an average of 20 years. Harvest date upon request. Winemakers: Cristiano van Zeller and Joana Pinhão.
