Description

Tawny wines are reds made from the same grapes as Ruby wines, but they age only two to three years in charred barrels before moving to wine casks. These casks allow the wine to interact more with the wood and air, so the Tawny ages and oxidises more quickly. As a result, the wine loses the initial red hue, developing lighter amber tones and flavors of dried fruits such as walnuts and almonds. With age, the Tawny gains even more aromatic complexity, enriching its bouquet. The bottling year may not match the image shown (illustrative only).
