The origins of the Adega Cooperativa da Labrugeira (ACL) date back to 1973, when it was founded by 85 winemakers and saw its first harvest in 1975. Today it has 437 members covering a total area of 620 hectares. In the 1990s, with the establishment of regional wine commissions (CVR), its wines began to be certified as Vinho Regional da Estremadura (now Vinho Regional Lisboa) and as Vinho de Denominação de Origem Controlada – DOC Alenquer. Located in the municipality of Alenquer, ACL is currently the only cooperative winery in the area, thereby representing all cooperative growers in the region. With a strong tradition of producing quality wines, the cooperative has steadily upgraded its facilities and is now one of the wineries best positioned to meet enological demands.
