Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic estates on the Douro wine route. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units owned by the Cistercian order in the region. A fortified, imposing and majestic house dominates the 200 hectares of the estate. The stunning landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, dotted with tall cypresses, orange trees, almond trees and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vineyards, almost half of which are over 90 years old. Drawing on centuries of accumulated wine‑making knowledge, the estate launched a portfolio of wines in 2008, among which the award‑winning Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red stands out as one of the best in the Douro.
