Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic wine estates in the Douro. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units the Cistercian order owned in the region. An imposing, fortified house dominates the 200 hectares of the estate. A breathtaking landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, dotted with tall cypresses, orange trees, almonds and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vineyards, almost half of which are over 90 years old. Drawing on centuries of accumulated winemaking knowledge, the estate launched a portfolio of wines in 2008, among which stands out the Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red, awarded and recognized as one of the best in the Douro.
