Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic estates of the Douro wine region. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units owned by the Cistercian order in the area. An imposing, majestic, castellated house dominates the 200 hectares of the estate. A stunning landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, punctuated by tall cypresses, orange trees, almond trees and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vines, almost half of which are over 90 years old. Drawing on knowledge accumulated over centuries of wine production, the estate launched a portfolio of wines in 2008, among which stands out the award‑winning Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red, recognised as one of the best in the Douro.
