This “Vira Cabeças” – quite a name, isn’t it? – hails from the heart of the Serra de S. Mamede, a project that feels pulled straight from a vineyard dream (or perhaps a bit of winemaking alchemy). Born from centenary vines at altitudes that certainly test the balance, it’s spent 22 months ageing in old oak barrels, a pause that’s clearly allowed it to ponder the complexities of this granite terroir. João Afonso’s meticulous selection process, with incredibly low yields, promises a wine that demands patience – and maybe a chat with time itself. It’s absolutely divine with some handcrafted cheeses and a perfectly grilled fish.
