Torre do Frade is a family‑run agricultural estate located in the municipality of Monforte, in the heart of Alto Alentejo in southeast Portugal, close to the Spanish Estremadura border. Its history dates back to the distant year 1384, when the original owner donated the land to the Hermits of the Order of Saint Augustine. The friars established a convent that flourished until 1834, when the religious orders were expelled from Portugal by Joaquim António de Aguiar, then Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Justice. After the friars were expelled, the lands were sold at a public auction and purchased by the family in 1839. Since that day, the estate has focused on producing high‑quality food products that exceed ordinary standards. (illustrative image only)
