The origin of the Adega Cooperativa da Labrugeira, ACL, dates back to 1973, when 85 growers initiated it, and its first harvest came in 1975. Today it represents 437 members across a total area of 620 hectares. In the 1990s, with the emergence of regional wine committees – CVR, its wines began to be certified as Vinho Regional da Estremadura, now Vinho Regional Lisboa, and as Vinho de Denominação de Origem Controlada – DOC Alenquer. Located in the municipality of Alenquer, the Adega Cooperativa da Labrugeira is currently the only cooperative winery in the area, thus representing all local cooperative growers. With a strong tradition in producing quality wines, the winery has steadily upgraded its facilities and is now one of the best‑responding wineries to enological demands.
