According to its age, the wines may show signs left by time, such as dust traces on the bottles and/or some label damage—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar stores all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, yet chooses to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We generally select brands/regions that normally perform well in old‑wine tastings. However, wine is a living organism that, like others, is exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas evolve. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of the wine, given that it is old. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe first, which helps release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines.
