The Zorah Karasi Areni is a red wine of strong identity, made exclusively from Areni Noir, one of Armenia's ancestral grape varieties. Sourced from the highlands of Vayotz Dzor, at an altitude of around 1,400 metres, it comes from a phylloxera-free terroir with sandy soils rich in limestone and large stones, where the vines are grown on their own roots. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks using only indigenous yeasts, followed by about 12 months of ageing in large traditional Armenian amphorae, the Karasi, partially buried in the ground, and a further 6 months in bottle. This ancestral method preserves the authentic expression of the grape variety and the terroir. On the nose it reveals an elegant smoky character, with notes of black fruit, herbs, pepper and aniseed. On the palate it is deep, rich and textured, with expressive fruit, firm and well-defined tannins and a long, persistent finish. A wine of great personality, where altitude and tradition meet in a singular expression of Areni Noir. (illustration for reference only)
