Right then, let’s have a go. Here’s a take on the Vite Colte Gavi DOCG Aureliana, with a dash of playful observation: Born from the slopes of Piedmont, where the ground barely manages to reach 250 metres, this Aureliana is a remarkably perceptive white. You can practically see it drinking in the siliciosa clay and reddish gravel soils – a mineral intensity that’s clearly planning a long residency. Slow fermentation at a cool 15-16°C has layered in a nice complexity, and thankfully, the bottle aging confirms it’s not going anywhere fast. Wonderful with grilled white fish, a shellfish dish, or even a simple bruschetta – a wine that whispers rather than shouts, wouldn’t you agree?
