Tenuta San Guido is a Tuscan estate at Bolgheri, on Italy's Livorno coast, where Mario Incisa della Rocchetta began his wine project in 1942 and planted the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in 1944. Sassicaia stayed a private wine until the first commercial vintage of 1968, released in 1971, and gained international fame when the 1972 won a blind tasting of 33 Cabernet-based wines in 1978. The estate produces Sassicaia, Guidalberto and Le Difese; Sassicaia has its own exclusive denomination, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, the first granted to a single Italian estate.
