Savagnin

About this grape variety

Savagnin is the white grape of the Jura's most famous and idiosyncratic style — Vin Jaune. Aged at least six years in barrel without topping up, under a film of yeast (like Sherry's flor), the wine develops nutty, savoury, almost curry-like complexity that lasts decades. Savagnin is also vinified as a more conventional dry white ("ouillé") in the Jura. Same grape as the Traminer family, related to Gewürztraminer.
