Blandy's Wine Lodge

The historic Madeira house of Blandy's, established in 1811, occupies a series of 17th-century buildings in the heart of Funchal. The wine lodge tour — one of the most-visited wine destinations in Portugal — walks visitors through the canteiro and estufa ageing methods that give Madeira its signature character, the warm attic rooms where casks rest under the tropical sun, and an immense library of vintage bottlings. Tastings can include sips of Madeiras over 100 years old; the lodge's archive bottles are among the world's most extraordinary wine treasures.

Founded in 1811 by John Blandy, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious Madeira wine houses still in operation.
