Description

The history of Madeira wine begins shortly after the island that gives it its name was discovered, with records of the first productions and exports appearing 25 years later. In Madeira, vineyards are cultivated in small earth enclosures known as “poios”, supported by earth walls on mountain slopes that are often difficult to access. The island’s unique soil and climate, along with the production process and the grape varieties grown, have contributed to Madeira wine’s unparalleled distinction over time. Beyond these factors, 30 grape varieties are used to produce this fortified wine, with the most noble being Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and Malvasia. The bottling year may not match the image presented.
