Referenced since 1751, Ferreira has long been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. Its story is intertwined with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Port and still wines. Years later, the family business came under the direction of Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Renowned for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she propelled Douro viticulture and launched a notable social‑aid program in the area. After her death the company became a limited partnership, beginning a new expansion phase while preserving its core values. These principles carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the stewardship of Sogrape Vinhos, the firm has led the national Port market and introduced prestigious brands such as Quinta da Leda.
