The 2009 Fonseca batch is based on wines from Quinta do Panascal and Quinta do Cruzeiro, with small contributions from Quinta de Santo Antonio. It displays an impenetrable black color. Its nose is classic Fonseca, dominated by exuberant and delightful fruit, presenting a powerful perfume of blackberry and sour cherry, and slowly releases a complex and intoxicating mix of spicy and herbal aromas, seductive coffee and cocoa notes, and hints of plum and wild raspberry. The compact yet velvety tannins give the wine a voluptuous density, blending effortlessly with the magnificent infusion of blackberry jam, dark chocolate, and licorice that coats the palate. The tannins persist to the finish, which overflows with blackberry and sour cherry flavors. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (Illustrative image only)
