The Fonseca Lote 2009 is based on wines from Quinta do Panascal and Quinta do Cruzeiro, with small quantities from Quinta de Santo Antonio. It shows an impenetrable inky black colour. The nose is classic Fonseca, dominated by exuberant, delightful fruit, with a powerful perfume of blackberry and blackcurrant, and slowly releases a complex, intoxicating blend of spicy and herbal aromas, seductive notes of coffee and cocoa, and hints of plum and wild rosemary. The compact yet velvety tannins give the wine a voluptuous density, blending effortlessly with the magnificent infusion of blackberry jam, dark chocolate and liquorice that coats the palate. The tannins persist through to the finish, which overflows with blackberry and blackcurrant flavour. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (Image for illustrative purposes only.)
