Description

This Blandy's Madeira wine was produced from the Malvasia grape, one of the typical varieties of Madeira Island, sourced from volcanic soils and a subtropical climate. It displays an amber colour with golden nuances and a highly characteristic, intense, and complex aroma, featuring exuberant floral and spice notes. On the palate, it is sweet and has a long finish with a touch of spices. For 200 years, Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with high‑quality Madeira wine. Blandy remains the sole family among all the founders of the Madeira wine trade still owning and managing the original Blandy's Madeira wine company. The family has played a significant role in leading the development of Madeira wine throughout its history, and its members continue to live on Madeira, preserving a tradition that dates back to 1811. The Madeira Wine Company was originally an association of several Madeira wine producers who decided to unite their purchasing and production capacities. This association was founded in 1913. During the years of discord, the old family firms Blandy’s and Leacock merged, followed shortly by the dispute between Miles and Cossart Gordon, creating the largest producer and exporter of Madeira wine. Regardless of size, preserving the unique characteristics and style of each individual company remained at the heart of the association. In the late 1970s, the interests in the Madeira Wine Company, as it was known, were reduced to just a handful of the original families, with the Blandy family holding the controlling share. In 1989, the Blandy family, needing to strengthen the sales and marketing side of the business, invited the Symington family from Porto, Portugal, to join them in partnership. This partnership has continued to this day, allowing the Madeira Wine Company to play a leadership role in the development of the Madeira wine trade.
