The oldest records of the winery date back to 1605. It was founded by Fritz, a countryman who, over his life, passed his love of viticulture on to his descendants. In 1957 Wilhelm Haag, Fritz’s son, took the helm of the winery and guided it with mastery toward a future of success. Wilhelm was the first man to receive the title of “Winemaker of the Year,” a coveted award bestowed by the Gault Millau Guide. Today the estate is led by Oliver Hagg, Wilhelm’s son, and spans 17.5 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Riesling. Located in the Mosel region, the winery and its vineyards benefit from an excellent microclimate and a slate-based soil— the main reason for the distinctive character of its wines.
