The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who managed it until 1973. Today the administration of Messias Caves remains under the stewardship of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the major demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port.
