The earliest records of the winery date back to 1605. It was founded by Fritz, a rural man who, throughout his life, passed his love of viticulture on to his descendants. In 1957 Wilhelm Haag, Fritz’s son, took command of the winery and steered it with mastery toward a future of success. Wilhelm was the first man to receive the title of “Winemaker of the Year,” a coveted award granted by the Gault Millau Guide. Today the estate is run by Oliver Hagg, Wilhelm’s son, and covers 17.5 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Riesling. The Mosel region, where the winery and its vineyards are located, enjoys an excellent micro‑climate and slate soil— the main reason for the unique character of its wines. (Illustrative image only)
