Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has embarked on a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring vineyards across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still in existence in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famed Palácio da Bacalhôa constitute an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, which is part of the Berardo family, led by Commander José Berardo. It was classified as a National Monument on June 23, 1910. In the surrounding area of Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
